Hamersay House is an excellent base from which to explore the Uists

Purpose built in 2005 in the village of Lochmaddy, Hamersay House was bought by the team from Langass Lodge in 2014. A series of refurbishments has established this as a comfortable 4 star hotel popular with discerning visitors keen to explore this island.

What our customers say on Tripadvisor

  • This hotel had been picked for us by our tour bespoke holiday firm. It is excellent. Have 4 nights here and very happy with the choice. All staff friendly and great customer service. Food is excellent had breakfasts and eaten every night in the restaurant as such good quality menu. I am coeliac and no problem as food all fresh. Can highly recommend for anyone visiting the Uists. Excellent location for then getting ferry to move on to either Skye or Harris and Lewis.

  • Hamersay House was the perfect haven after cycling against fierce headwinds and driving rain – starting with a friendly welcome from the lovely Katlyn, who managed the check-in. The room was of a high standard, with a particularly comfortable bed, and welcome bath to warm us through. Dinner in the cosy bar area was excellent (the smokehouse platter especially recommended), with great service from the multi-tasking Katlyn, who was also managing the bar. Breakfast was also excellent (with efficient service from you-know-who, who also managed the check-out (of course). Highly recommend this hotel.

  • On arrival I was made most welcome by the hotel receptionist who quickly checked me in. The room I had was large and spacious and was spotlessly clean. The dinner was in the bar with all meals reasonably priced, only drawback for me was the quantity, the dinner portions were vast, but that’s just me. Overall I would return time and time again.

  • Only spent one night at Hamersay House. Our room was spacious and warm which was great after arriving on a very wet dreach day , with a lovely big comfortable bed. Ate in the restaurant. Food was well presented Scallops were perfectly cooked as was the halibut . Lots of choice at breakfast which was also well cooked and big portions! Lizzie our waitress was very attentive and looked after us very well . Good value

  • ‘Could not fault it – excellent choice of products. I was looked after superbly re coeliac. Thank you. ‘

  • This hotel is absolutely stunning. There were 3 of us in our party and the booking was very last minute, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The rooms are beautiful, spacious and comfortable. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was fantastic too. It really is worth every penny and you will be hard pushed to find similar luxury on the islands (North and south Uist’s). We felt very lucky to have been told the lochmaddy hotel was full!! We deffo had the better deal. Breakfast was perfection, fresh and plentiful. If your planning a stay don’t look any further than this hotel, you literally won’t find a quality equivalent in the Outer Hebrides.. absolutely will be back, 100%

  • We spent one night in Hamersay House last week. Our accommodation was spotless, very smart, and came with a huge bed which was great as we’re used to a king size at home. As vegetarians we were a little concerned that there wouldn’t be much for us in the Hebrides, but Hamersay House offered several high-quality veggie options on their extensive evening menu which was perfect. All the staff were homely and very friendly, and went well out of their way to make my partner’s 40th birthday dinner special, which was lovely of them. On the morning of our departure the owner kindly offered to drive us down to the ferry as we had quite a lot of luggage, but there really wasn’t any need to disturb her day as it was only about ten minutes’ walk down to the terminal so that’s what we did. Hamersay House is the perfect place to stay in North Uist, and we hope to go back one day 🙂

  • Simply first rate. Food in evening beautifully presented, tasty and reasonably priced – we had 4 different starters which was ample food and allowed us to taste a huge range of Scottish foods. Breakfast everything you could ask for. Little touches such as table number in a bottle, and use of same themed mats throughout set Hamersay House apart. Bed, room and bathroom clean and very comfortable. Stayed one night… wish had been longer. Highly recommended.

  • Lovely room. Clean, modern. Good internet. TV reception was very clear. Everything you would want in a hotel … particularly one offshore from the mainland. Quite unexpected really. The hotel restaurant was very good, and worth the money.
