North Uist and the islands offer a rich variety of wildlife for visitors to watch in their natural habitat. The RSPB reserve at Balranald is 15 minutes drive away and we have regular otter walks leaving from Langass to watch at the edge of the sea loch.
Golden Eagles are regularly sighted over our sister hotel Langass Lodge and Sea Eagles may be seen too. Sometimes deer and stags make their way into Lochmaddy but can usually be seen on the hillsides. In early summer the sound of the corncrakes are often heard on the ‘machair’, the unique grassland strewn with wild flowers on the west side near the sea.
